YesterdayHad a go on a few horses yesterday, the winning run contnues which is nice.
Highlight was undoubtably Third Set, a horse to follow this year me thinks.
Off to Newbury in a while for a decent days racing, will be using cash so I'll update at the end of today how I get on.
I'm thinking of having a few quid on West Ham at the prices. I think that will be my only bet of the day outside the horses.
P&L for yesterday Nad Al ShebaHad a winnner earlier with Third Set (Group horse in a handicap), going to tip one up here and see how we get on, Drayton in the 6.30.
Good Luck if you are playing. YesterdayGood day yesterday.
Had a play on the horses with some good success. Seems to happen this way with me, I have good runs and then bad runs, Nad Al Sheba was especially kind - with Lucky Find being the main contributor. Looks a quality animal that one.
Then with the kids tucked up in bed and the wife out on a works do, I decided to have a little dabble on the darts. Traded 2 of the games well - Only Jenkins let me down missing his double at the crucial moment. Never mind onwards and upwards as they say.
I am now well in front of target for the month and I plan to keep it that way over the weekend. But as usual we'll see what happens.
Traded out of my Randhawa lay in the Indian Masters, so as long as it doesn't go pear shaped over the weekend we should have a nice profit to look forward to. Might update later if I get the chance.
P&L for yesterday

Indian MastersQuick update, I have decided to lay Randhawa now, just think his price is too short after just one round - After all he isn't Tiger Woods is he? All quiet in the Sports Punter household.........Not much happening at the moment.
Missed both the 20/20 games in New Zealand. Couldn't be having England at odd on in what is in effect a lottery format.
Watched the football last night but didn't have a bet. Don't know about you but I found it quite refreshing to see a bunch of overpaid players look very nervous, maybe Capello is the man to finally command some respect. Strikes me no-one is guaranteed a start any more. Were you watching Steve McLaren?
Bit annoyed about the Golf in India, was going to back Randhawa pre-tournament but decided to see how he started first, cost me a few quid that, will probably get involved at some point over the next couple of days.
Thinking about siding with Justin Leanord in the US Golf, but again I'll probably wait and see how he starts first.
May have a look at the African Nations and Horse Racing later, I'll let you know if I do.
Roll on the weekend. UpdateStruggling at the moment to find much to bet on so doing what is prudent and keeping my powder dry.
Looked at Cameroon yesterday but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger and also England in the 20/20 - but you would struggle to find 2 more unpredictable sides in world sport.
Had a quick look at Liverpool in the Premiership market, 250-1 may be a good price in a couple of weeks if they can string a couple of results together starting with Chelsea on Sunday. Might be worth £10. Could make a decent trade anyway.
Reading (My hometown club) in the Premiership Relegation market are starting to look like a decent punt at amost 3-1, the seem to be on a downward spiral at the moment. Again they could make a good trade.
Might play a bit of Poker tonight - not sure yet - I'll let you know how I get on if I do.
Also for those of you who are interested I am looking at Barclays shares currently, think they may be a good long term punt with a healthy dividend (If they don't cut it), if they get below £4.50 again prior to results I'll probably dip my toe in the water. Weekend UpdateGiants won well last night, glad I had them with the cushion of the handicap though, made things almost relaxing towards the end.
Mickelson came close but no cigar, unfortunately had the majority of the green on him at the end, but still made a profit so can't complain.
Start of this week looks pretty quiet on the quality sport front, so I am going to have a look at some of the longer term markets today and not have a bet.
P&L Updated. SuperbowlNY Giants + 12.5 for me. Good luck everyone. P&L tomorrow. Where do I start?OK, no P&L at the moment I'll save that for later as I have a huge green on Phil Mickelson at the moment which I will probably play around with later.
Superbowl night - my favourite night of the year so I'll be around to post when the P&L is finalised for today and yesterday.
Golf : Tiger is a machine, you have got to hand it to him - won a few quid along the way so can't complain.
Horses: Didn't repeat the success of Friday, but didn't give it all back either so not too unhappy.
Rugby Union: Managed to lay off the England bet for a profit prior to the game, glad I did, but they won't be winning so the profit won't happen any way. Fancied Scotland to run France close so there are some losses to come from that. You'll see later.
Soccer: Everton v Blackburn - Ref cost me as I laid the draw, Reading v Bolton - Reading cost me as I laid Bolton at 1-0 up, Newcastle v Middlesborough - Linesman cost me as I had a decent green on Newcastle, Fulham v Aston Villa - saved my bacon.
The men in black have got to sort this offside rule out I don't think anyone properly understands what is going to happen match to match.
Anyway enough of the inquest, you'll see later the damage that has been done - not too bad.
On to the Superbowl, I really fancy NY Giants to run the Pats close so I'll be playing them on the handicap. I'll post the details later with the P&L for the last 2 days. Six NationsHad a few quid on England for the Six Nations, will lay off later probably when they beat Wales. Although I may leave it until Scotland have played France tomorrow. We'll see. Nice StartA good start was made yesterday, had a dabble with the horses and made my target for this month in one day - Oh if it was always going to be this easy. Got very lucky at Kempton especially, having three bets and they all won.
Have traded the golf a bit this morning, well Tiger anyway, and have got a profit of about £40 locked in so far, hopefully I can grow this over the next few hours.
Good days racing in store this afternoon, so I dare say I'll get involved at some point.
I'll probably try to post another update later on, maybe with a couple of tips.
P&L Updated. Attempt 2Ok, sorry about the lack of updates lately, well the last 6 or so months to be precise, but I am back and raring to go with this again.
Probably won’t be updating as frequently as before, but at least a few times a week. Let’s see if I can finish this year with a profit.
I think I need to set myself a target as before, but maybe keep it a bit more realistic, I am going to aim for £5500 profit by the end of the year – That’s £500 per month.
I’ll try to post thoughts and bets prior to the event, however there will be plenty of after timing along the way when I don’t get a chance to, I can assure you though they won’t always be winners.
I’ll copy and paste my Betfair P&L on a regular basis so you can all keep track of my progress.
There will be a mixture of Sports and Poker along the way, so should be something for everyone. I am also quite in to dabbling with shares so I might throw a bit of this in along the way.
Wish me luck…………………… Good Day YesterdayLooks like I am calling the cricket better at the moment. Update to follow with all of the others.
Just thought I would let you know had a go with David Carter in the European Golf. Will try to lay off at some point later but we'll see how he goes. Just think he is a nice price seeing as though he is the only one in the Top 8 who has actually won a tournament, even if it was 9 years ago ;-)
Full update later time permitting. ApologiesSorry for the lack of updates at the moment, but things are a bit hectic.
Yesterday was not a great day either, reckon I am losing for the month now.
Family due back any time, can't wait - really missed them this week.
One bet today, laying England in the ODI against India, I think their price is far too short.
I'll try to catch up with P&L's tomorrow morning.
Good Luck if you have a bet today. DisasterYesterday was a disaster, reckon I am about level for the month again. I'll update with the details later. Racing to concentrate on now. 2.35 YorkNice start today, fancy Scriptwriter in this one. Let's hope he is on a going day. 2-00 YorkFancy Sir Gerry to turn over the favourite here. Back in profitGood day yesterday.
Horses went well, and the cricket, for once, went well too.
Highlight of the horses was undeniably Authorized. Very pleased that we have finally got a superstar Derby winner after a few years of mediocrity. Few people after the race were saying Dylan Thomas was unlucky, don't see that myself, think Authorized won the race on merit. Great to see the obvious joy and excitement on the faces of Dettori and Chapple-Hyam after the race.
In the cricket, never really too much doubt about the outcome to be honest in my book. Didn't think India were ever going to chase down close to 300 under lights, so just let the bet ride without laying off.
Today will be spent trying not to give the profit back, but mainly concentrating on the horses. May have a look at the football later, but I know the only bet I am likely to have in that will be on England and that is dangerous in these type of games.
Will try to post a few fancies for York later on.
Good Luck.
Tuesday P&L
Cricket: GBP187.06 Horse Racing: GBP455.19 Total P&L: GBP642.25 UpdateHad a decent start on the horses, going with Yellowstone in the next at York.
Siding with England in the cricket, so get ready for the collapse this afternoon............ TuesdayBad day yesterday, family left for a break until Friday and not much work on at the moment. A dangerous combination. Too much time for me to play.
About time I had a bad day on the horses, and yesterday was the day, couldn't pick my nose and then started chasing - got to get out of that mentality now. Even had a few bets on the US Racing, not something I will be repeating.
Updated about the Cricket yesterday. I need to stop jumping in with both feet, when I think I see an opportunity - because the way the cricket is going for me at the moment, the odds are there is no opportunity there in the first place.
This has now wiped out all of the profit I made in the early part of the month. Need to get my disciplined, selective head back on starting from today.
Another dangerous day ahead, York races and England v India ODI. I will be trying to put myself back in to profit for the month.
Still mulling over the money management side of things, and when I have ironed everthing out will dedicate a post to it. Initial thoughts are that I am overstaking in an attempt to hit the £25k profit target. I am thinking of reducing my maximum liability per event to £200 and also reducing my profit target to £1000 per month. This does not mean I will be staking £200 on every event, just that this will be my maximum loss.
I am forunate to have built up a fairly decent betting pot, but that does not mean I have to throw it all away.
In fact for now these are going to be my new money management rules. Let me know what you think.
Monday P&L
Cricket: -GBP92.50 Horse Racing: -GBP423.73 Total P&L: -GBP516.23 UpdateCan I call a game of cricket or can I call a game of cricket....................... What a waste of time and money. Goodnight. CricketAs a warm up for tomorrow, I am laying Yorkshire in the cricket.
Think this may be tougher than some people seem to think.
Also 8-00 Windsor, Vincenzio - Come on Frankie..................... The WeekendOk, sorry for the rant yesterday, calmed down a bit now. Still think Stiles is a pratt but there you go it happens.
Apologies for the lack of updates over the weekend, but with the family off for a week's break, been trying to concentrate on them.
Was offered a ticket for the Reading v Everton game on Saturday but didn't go as thought it would be unfair to take the time out.
Had a decent day Saturday on the horses as you will see below. However made some huge mistakes on other sports:
Cricket was a disaster (Laid Durham at the change of innings only to see 2 hampshire wickets fall in 2 balls at the start of their reply), Soccer wasn't great (Really fancied Newcastle to beat Villa), Rugby Union was just plain stupid (Fancied England to beat France for some reason, blind patriotic faith is all I can put this one down to)
Sunday was different to Saturday, as it was just a disaster with no help from the horses.
As you already know I had backed Dyson in the golf and decided to weigh in with Kaymer to try to get my loss back. Went well for much of the day and did manage to lay off both my stakes prior to Kaymer throwing it away.
Loss from the cricket came through to the P&L after it was rolled over from Saturday.
Soccer I have already covered yesterday. Started with a back of Liverpool, going well and had laid my stake back when they went in front. Chelsea then get a 'Penalty' and equalise. So I laid the draw for my original stake as I thought there would be a winner. What a dick. Lesson to be learnt here never gamble on your own team.
So miffed by the end of this decided to lump on Billy Mayfair in the US Golf. Close but no cigar.
In the cold light of day, I can see what a pratt I have been this weekend, and will post later on the new money management limits I am going to put in place going forward. I allowed myself to slip out of the new discipline I had picked up, and revert to my scattergun appproach which patently doesn't work when the gambling gods are against you.
I am extremely fortunate to still be in profit for the month.
Saturday P&L
Horse Racing: GBP488.92 Rugby Union: -GBP80.00 Soccer: -GBP296.40 Total P&L: GBP112.52
Sunday P&L
Cricket: -GBP67.20 Golf: -GBP112.93 Soccer: -GBP227.59 Total P&L: -GBP407.72 ChasingYes I am chasing. Yes I am Livid.
Had a good few quid on Billy Mayfair in the US Golf. Tomorrow's update is not going to be pretty.
Good Luck everyone except Mourinho and his moaning, bleating, lucky team.
If Rob Stiles gets out of the ground to find his hub caps removed and his car sitting on bricks so much the better............... Wa*ker. UpdateIf you hadn't already guessed I am a Liverpool fan.
Yes, I am talking through my pocket, but that was a f**king disgrace.
If I see Rob Stiles in the next lifetime I am going to tell him exactly what I think of him.
Times like these money is not important, but that was shocking.
If you are a Chelsea fan, I hope that cost you a good few quid to have the 12th man on your side.
Sanity to be restored tomorrow on the blog. I am speechless.
